The story behind the sound

The London-based composer, band leader and trumpeter Mark Armstrong has been a key player in British jazz for three decades. As well as touring with acts such as the Ronnie Scott Jazz Orchestra, he is Jazz Professor at the Royal College of Music and the Artistic Director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, whose alumni includes Amy Winehouse and Guy Barker. A jazz enthusiast since the age of 10, he studied Music at the University of Oxford, then Jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has won the BBC Big Band Competition arranging prize, and written for choirs and symphony orchestras. His Audio Network recordings are collaborations with composers David Tobin and Jeff Meegan.

Mark Armstrong is Artistic Director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, whose alumni includes Amy Winehouse. In collaboration with David Tobin and Jeff Meegan, he creates sumptuous big band jazz.
